the humble spirit awards ‘24
To us, a humble spirit has empathy, gratitude, and a willingness to serve or support others without seeking recognition or reward.
The Original humble spirits

Calvin Kearns: A cowboy, family man, and lover of the outdoors. Spent his life working hard while loving the people around him with a wide-open heart.

Rose Marie Caughran: Lifelong traveler. Beloved librarian. Planter of trees. Her boundless, kind-hearted energy inspired our approach to hospitality.
Thomas Wood: painter, award-winning printmaker, and benevolent spirit—his work holds a profound reverence for all of nature’s creatures, great and small. Photo by Sarah Harvey

Depicting the spirit of the Willamette Valley, the eye represents all animals, the wave represents water, and the yarrow represents its regional flora.

Maggie Kirkland: Capturer of meaning, beauty and joy. Her photo of the old oak at our farm reminds us of our constant connection to the natural world.
